We are excited to announce that due to continued growth our client is currently recruiting for a Fleet Engineer to join their dedicated team. You’ll be working Monday to Friday and one in 4 Saturday mornings-based in Leighton Buzzard. However, a level of flexibility is needed as you will be required to visit customers and suppliers based in the South and Midlands.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

You will head up our fleet team who manage our busy and varied truck and trailer fleet. You will oversee all aspects of compliance regarding servicing and MOT’s as well as monitoring overdue services and making sure our team support customer O licence requirements.

Work closely with senior management on new trailer specifications/orders and managing all fleet details prior to delivery. Investigate all MOT failures and PG’s, collating findings and recommendations reports. Participate fully in ongoing operational improvements, providing engineering support to identify and secure cost savings across the business.

Vet new suppliers and service agents. Setting up service contracts to provide support to our customers. Oversee compliance on our own fleet of service vans and other vehicles operated by us. Carry out spot checks and fleet auditing on suppliers, our internal mobile engineers and other service agents. Work closely with the depot-based transport operations teams, you will help to ensure that the fleet remains safe and compliant at all times, whilst maximising vehicle and trailer uptime. Assist with the administration duties involved with operating a large fleet. Manage vehicle returns at the end of lease / spot rental checking paperwork recording vehicle condition etc. Ensure the fleet is roadworthy and in line with legislative standards- at all times.

Skills required

A background in mechanical engineering, with HGV motor vehicle qualifications – City & Guilds, etc. Previous fleet experience across multiple sites and customers. Strong IT and analytical skills. The ability to build and manage relationships with both customers and suppliers. The flexibility for occasional overnight stays due to area of coverage and a strong knowledge of HGV MOT testing standards.
